Strengthening Professional Synergies: GhIS Engages GRIDCo in Strategic Collaboration

GhIS delegation meets with GRIDCo leadership in Tema.

On Friday, 13th June 2025, the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS), led by its President, Surv. Kofi Obeng-Ayirebi, paid a significant working visit to the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) as part of its ongoing strategy to strengthen institutional partnerships and promote professional development among its members.

The GhIS delegation included members of the Executive Committee and Governing Council. They were received by Mr. Richard Ntim, on behalf of the Chief Executive of GRIDCo, along with other senior management from Engineering, Land Management, and Technical Services departments.

Key Highlights of the Engagement

  • Capacity Building and Professional Development: GhIS commended GRIDCo for its continued sponsorship of staff through CPD programs, annual subscription payments, and participation in professional conferences. The meeting emphasized the need for ongoing training in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), procurement audits, and value-for-money assessments.
  • Support for Local Consultants: Discussions highlighted the need to empower Ghanaian consultancy firms to meet international standards. GRIDCo encouraged GhIS to work closely with development partners who influence procurement policies. AnL Valuation & Property Consult was cited as an exemplary local firm.
  • Strategic Collaboration Opportunities: GRIDCo invited GhIS to submit a comprehensive outline of services to support future needs assessments and potential partnerships in areas such as compensation assessments, audit data access, and technical knowledge exchange.
  • Recognizing Surveyors’ Role in Infrastructure: GhIS reiterated its support for professionals working in critical national institutions and committed to providing tailored training and policy engagement where needed.
  • Revised Subscription Policy: Effective 2026, GhIS subscription invoices will be issued directly to individual members. Members will then be required to seek reimbursement from their employers. This policy aims to promote fairness and accountability across sectors.

A Forward-Looking Partnership

The meeting concluded on a positive and forward-looking note, with mutual appreciation and a shared commitment to continued collaboration. As a symbolic gesture of goodwill and institutional respect, plaques and brochures were exchanged, and a group photograph was taken to commemorate the occasion.

GhIS reaffirmed its dedication to partnering with institutions like GRIDCo to enhance opportunities for surveyors, raise industry standards, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
