The Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) was established on 28th February 1969 at the General Meeting of the Ghana Branch of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors at which a resolution was passed to that effect and the Constitution was promulgated. Membership of the Ghana Institution of Surveyor comprises members of the recognized Overseas Professional Bodies who were practicing in Ghana viz: Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Institute of Quality Surveyors. Members of the Licensed Surveyors Association also agreed to be incorporated into the Ghana Institution of Surveyors in the class of Licentiates. Committee of the Ghana Branch of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors for the year 1968/1969 constituted the Interim Council of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors and was charged with the responsibility of conducting election of officers of the Institution and Members of Council and arranging for the inauguration of the institution. At the Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Branch of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, held on 13th March, 1970, Officers and members of Council were elected in accordance with the provisions of the constitution. A formal inauguration of the Institution was held on 28th August 19At the Extra Ordinary General Meeting held on Friday, December 10, 2007, the name of the Council was changed to the Governing Council with the coming into effect of the new constitution. 2007at the Annual 9th Surveyors week and 45th AGM held on Thursday 29TH February 2014, an MOU between GhIS and RICS was signed.
