OBJECTIVES

The objects of the GhIS shall be:
To secure the advancement and facilitate the acquisition of that knowledge, which constitutes the profession of a Surveyor, namely, the arts, sciences and practice of:

  • Accounting, purchasing or sale Compensation and for such other purposes as may be requested and or Necessary
  1. To manage and develop estates and other business concerned with the management of landed property
  2. To provide and research in Facilities Management
  3. To provide Cost Engineering services.
  4. To survey the structure and conditions of buildings civil engineering works, process facilities and their maintenance, alteration and improvement
  5. To measure, delineate and depict the physical features of the earth for the purposes of geo-spatial information management and resource and environmental surveys
  6. To provide precise positioning, charting and data gathering in marine environment and other geo-informatics activities
  7. To manage, develop and survey mineral property by determining the economic use of the resources of the construction industry and the financial appraisal, management and the measurements of construction work
  8. To sell (whether by auction or otherwise) buy or let, as an agent, movable or immovable property or any interest therein
  9. To secure the advancement and facilitate the acquisition of that knowledge which constitutes the profession of a surveyor.
  10. To promote the general interests of the members of the profession.
  11. To promote ethical performance of the obligations of the members of the profession for the benefit of the public.
  12. To contribute to the development of international and national policies and legal frameworks, strategies and plans in land management in a manner that facilitates sustainable development.
  13. To represent the interests of the members of the profession in relevant local, national, regional and international forums.
  14. To work with other local, national, regional and international organisations on matters of mutual interest.
  15. To establish such institutions, institutes or other bodies as may be necessary for the achievement of its objects.
  16. To engage in the provision of such services as may be necessary for the benefit of the members or the sustainability of the Institution.
  17. To conduct such examinations, tests or other assessments as may be necessary to determine an applicant’s eligibility for membership.

  24. To organize workshops, seminars  or symposia for members and/or the general public;
  25. To conduct continuing education courses for its members.
  26. To maintain a library of books and periodicals relating to surveying and to encourage the publication of such books and periodicals;
  27. To encourage research in the subject of surveying.
  28. To secure the well-being and advancement of the profession of surveying.
  29. To undertake construction project audit, performance reviews of infrastructure projects and project forensic for the purposes of reconciliation, prosecution and valuation.
  30. To promote and practice the resolution of disputes in the construction and real estate industries through Arbitration, Mediation, adjudication, Expert Witness/Determination and all other ADR mechanisms?
  31. To provide Contract Management services aimed at ensuring smooth contract execution in the construction and real estate industry.
  32. To provide comprehensive procurement management services for works services and goods in the built environment industry
  33. To undertake value for money, value engineering and value management services in the Built Environment industry.
Over the years the Institution has played a major role in the development of Ghana in the areas as indicated in the objectives indicated above.
